Welcome to the Huntington Waypoint Big Lake Classic!

The 2011 Huntington Waypoint Big Lake Classic Fishing Tournament is scheduled for August 13th and 14th in Saugatuck, and is assured to be one of the best tournaments yet, with over $45,000 in cash and prizes, and over 50 boats participating!

In 2009 the tournament’s name was changed to the “Huntington Waypoint Big Lake Classic”.   The new tournament committee is made up of the former tournament directors, Denny and Linda Allen, along with the local businesses Coral Gables and the Mermaid Restaurant, charter boat captains Dave Engel and Bill Bale, Tom Earley of Earley Construction Co., and members of the Allegan Ducks Unlimited Chapter, and our major sponsor Huntington Bank.

The Tournament Director is John Watson of Allegan Ducks Unlimited, a role he has filled very capably since 2009.

This year’s tournament will be similar to prior “Waypoint” tournaments that included prizes, fun and more payouts in both the pro and amateur divisions.   Coral Gables will provide dock space for tournament boats to deliver their fish cooler and a fisherman directly to the weigh-in and all boats will be required to be in Saugatuck or Holland pier heads by 1:30 pm each day of fishing.

NEW FOR 2011 – Boats may dock in Holland and return to Holland Pier Heads and bring fish by vehicle to Coral Gables in Saugatuck. Teams must be in line by 3:00pm each day.

The beneficiaries of this year’s tournament include the Saugutuck Township Fire Department, the Net Pen Project, Fifth Grade Class of Douglas Elementary (Saugutuck Public Schools), and the Allegan Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.
